What is Gifted Local?

Gifted Local is an e-commerce marketplace which encourages customers to buy products, services & experiences from local makers, designers and artists. By supporting and nurturing these small businesses, we are keeping money in the local economy as well as helping the environment by reducing delivery miles, congestion and pollution through local hand delivery and minimal packaging.

I’ve ordered an item and had an email saying that Gifted Local is checking with the Seller. What does this mean?

Once you’ve placed an order, the Seller is then notified and will email you to confirm the order.  Please check your junk mail if you haven't heard from the seller.  At this point, any personalisation elements will also be confirmed.

I want my item personalised but can’t find where to add this information in with the order?

The seller will email you after you've made the order to confirm any personalisation elements to the item. If you have any questions you want to discuss before you purchase, please contact info@giftedlocal.com with your enquiry and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. 

How long does it take for an item to be delivered?

Please check each individual product page for this information. If something is made to order, it will take a little longer for delivery but this will be clearly stated on the product page. All the Gifted Local sellers deliver as quickly as they possibly can and will keep you updated via email with all delivery information. If you need something delivered quicker than the time stated on the product description page, please contact us at info@giftedlocal.com before you order and we will help you.

If you've ordered 2+ items and the sellers live near each other, we'll encourage them to combine the delivery. If we can avoid unnecessary parcels being delivered we will do so.

We’ve had customers order an item in the morning and then had it delivered the same afternoon!

How does Gifted Local work with the sellers on the site?

Gifted Local isn't just a place to buy products. It's a place to nurture talent, encourage small creative businesses to try new things and to give advice. It's a place which helps bind the local community together and make friends.

We are a commission based platform, we have no sellers membership fees, no listing fees and only take a small commission when a sale is made. This means that there are no risks for small businesses to sign up with us.... we want to make the platform as accessible as possible.

Do I pay for delivery?

Mostly delivery is free to any address in mainland UK. Some products are free for local delivery and P&P is added for delivery addresses further afield. This is clearly labelled within those particular product pages.

If I order from a Gifted Local in my neighbourhood does that mean I’ll get my package hand-delivered?

We encourage hand delivery with minimal / recyclable packaging and all our sellers are on board with our ethos so will do everything they can to hand deliver. However, there will be times when this is out of their control and may need to post it for safety or speed of delivery. Our recent partnership with Zedify the courier delivery company also means that if you and the seller are in the area they cover, your order may be delivered to you by their environmentally friendly cargo bikes (you'll be notified post purchase how your product will be delivered).

If I buy from a Gifted Local outside my neighbourhood, will my package still be hand delivered?

We’re really pleased that you’ve found something special on our website and are supporting Gifted Locals outside your area. Our hand-delivery policy tends to only apply to sellers delivering in their neighbourhood, although this is up to them. Once you’ve paid for your order, the seller will email you to talk through your order, any personalisation requirements, timings and confirm delivery details.

I don’t live anywhere near North London - can I still shop on the site?

The short answer is yes! On Gifted Local you don’t have to shop locally that’s up to you. You can buy from a seller in your neighbourhood or you can browse and buy that special something from further afield and we’ll post it to you. By shopping with us, you’re not only buying something beautifully made and totally unique, you’re supporting those small, talented and independent creative businesses up and down the UK, rather than just another Internet giant.

Why did you choose to expand to Queens Park, Kensal and surrounding areas?

We knew some very talented Gifted Locals in Queens Park & the surrounding areas and wanted to give them a platform to sell from. Our ambition is to expand across London and beyond, so watch this space!

Do you ship internationally?

We don’t ship internationally. We support local North London businesses and want to reduce our carbon footprint. Please find a local small business who is based close to where you live instead!

What is your refund policy?

If you live in Wood Green, Highgate, Crouch End, Muswell Hill or Tottenham then Gifted Local will organise the return of the item at no cost to you. If you live outside of these areas, please check the policy. 

When will you have sellers from my area?

If you're based in North London, then hopefully very soon! Followed by the rest of London. World domination is coming (well, let's start off with the UK) so please sign up to the newsletter or social media channels to be kept up to date with new postcodes opening up.

Do you allow local brick and mortar shops on your site?

Our high streets currently need all the help they can get so we'd happily work with a bricks and mortar shop.  Please contact us to discuss further.
